I know "i" week would normally start on a Sunday, but I'm breaking the rules this week. (My blog, my rules). For one, it's a holiday weekend. For two, "i" is always a tough one for me. For three, I will be gone most of the week for a wedding.Speaking of the holiday weekend...if you are headed to a BBQ or party for the Memorial Day holiday and stumped for what to bring, I've got your answer right here. This might quite possibly be the easiest recipe I've ever posted on the blog. In fact, calling it a "recipe" might be generous. But people are always asking me how to make this, so I decided why not post it on the blog.
This is a carryover from my college days at WSU. (Mom, this is what my college education bought me.) I'm pretty sure this was a party punch dreamed up by some frat guy in an evil scheme to get girls drunk. Well, guess what? It worked. (Hence the name).
Just for the record, I did not name this drink. It really is called "Hop, Skip and Go Naked." (Or Skip 'n Go for short). If there is any question why it got this name, just look at the ingredients: Beer, Lemonade, Vodka. It sounds like a ridiculous and weird combination, but for some reason it just works. It's dangerously strong because you really just taste the sweetness from the lemonade. You will literally be hopping to grab yourself more, skipping around from your happy drunkeness and if you drink too much...well, you know where I'm going with this. (On a related note, some people refer to these as Pink Panty Droppers for similar reasons).
As for the ingredients....dump in two cans of frozen lemonade concentrate. I like pink or raspberry lemonade. I made this in a cute pitcher, but as my fellow WSU alum Dawn pointed out, this was often made in a large garbage can during college. (Oh, the good ol' days).
Don't bother with expensive vodka or beer. An adequate vodka and crappy light beer will do just fine. It's sort of what adds to the charm of this drink. You'll need an entire fifth of vodka.
As for the beer, I use about 5 of them. Use six if you don't like it as sweet or you want more fizz. (And yes, I know how ridiculous it sounds to say "5-6 beers, to taste" as if it's salt or hot sauce). But seriously, taste it after 5 and add one more if you want.
And that's it! Give it a stir until the lemonade melts and serve. Don't bother with lemon slices. I just did that to make it look pretty in the photo. And as always, please drink responsibly. Have a safe and fun Memorial Day!

I think it's best when served out of a huge garbage can.....at least that's how the frat guys id it at WSU :-)
ReplyDeleteThis may be one of my favorite cocktail recipes ever! Gotta love the college concoctions! Normally my sister and I just make lemoneer's, which is bud light and lemonade on ice. I will have to add the vodka to zip it up! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI thought of you as I made myself one of these at a recent 1-year-old birthday party (really, all kids' birthday parties should have these for the adults). When I mentioned the name, I was met with a few confused stares. What? Pour me another and watch what happens.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of Memorial Day or the 4th in San Diego...except instead of glasses we used Gatorade bottles. Classy. :)
ReplyDeleteso classy :)
DeleteGo Cougs!
ReplyDeleteGet out! I've been looking for this for years, since I visited a friend at his college in FL. They called it panty droppers! I knew it was simple all I could remember was it had juice and the crappiest vodka and beer. Will be making this soon.
ReplyDeleteI don't happen to agree that Bud Light is a "crappy" beer.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! We used to use the apple flavored concentrate, with a bit of fruit punch as well. I would add a bit of Monster energy drink (green) to my cup for flavor and to energize while drinking (even more energy!).
ReplyDeleteTip for college students: If you are serving this out of a trash can or other large container you can go with a plastic bottle for the vodka, cut it in half, then use the top half upside down as a way to pour it into cups to serve. It stops people from reaching their hands and dirty cups into the drink. Also don't forget ice!
its called Skippy
ReplyDeleteMake it with rum and Grand Valley State University Alumni call it a "Swish n' Go."
ReplyDeleteHow many people will it serve ?
ReplyDeleteJungle juice!!! Yummy!
ReplyDeleteWe call this "pink panty pull-down" in the dirty South. Go GSU eagles!
ReplyDeleteTrying this for my birthday on Friday! It looks delicious. Thanks for sharing! =]
ReplyDeleteCan I use regular beer instead of light beer??
ReplyDeleteLight is preferred but I'm sure regular would be fine!
Deleteshould note that if have any left over, it doesnt seem to keep till next day very well
ReplyDeleteYou're all wrong! The word "hop" was never involved. The original Skip & Go Naked (or "Skip", as it was affectionately known) was created by the 901 Club, a bar near the USC campus in Los Angeles. It consisted of beer, gin & sweet & sour mix & was served over ice cubes in a tall slender glass. I can't begin to tell you how many of these I consumed back in the 60s when I was a USC student. As with many drinks, variations have been created over the years, but nothing beats the original - beer, gin & sweet & sour. YUM!
